A pair of twin barn owls i made this past year. The both debuted at Anthrocon 2012. Lexington the yellow eyed owl is my personal costume, Luxor the green eyed owl was sold in the dealers den at AC.

These were taken a few years ago at my friend Kim’s house. I actually have loads of photos from this shoot, but never posted them. So here a are a few shots that i thought i’d share.

My Sister Paid Progressive Insurance to Defend Her Killer In Court
I’ve been sending out some impertinent tweets about Progressive Insurance lately, but I haven’t explained how they pissed me off. So I will do that here as succinctly as possible. There’s a general understanding that says, “insurance companies— oh they’re awful,” but since Progressive turned their shit hose on my late sister and my parents, I’ve learned some things that really surprised me.
I’ll try to cleave to the facts. On June 19, 2010, my sister was driving in Baltimore when her car was struck by another car and she was killed. The other driver had run a red light and hit my sister as she crossed the intersection on the green light.

宇宙ネコ ver.2.0

I love the second picture. It completely screws with my mind because it really looks like it might be from a movie or a CGI animation or something.
Anthrocon Meme

How do you want to be addressed?
Giza is just fine. “Hey you” also works in a pinch.

Gender?
I’m a guy.

Age?
Old enough to know better. But I don’t have any grey hairs yet…

What do you look like?
I’m about 5’10” and 180 pounds. I shave my head, and you’ll often see me wearing a shirt and tie during the day. I’ll also be wearing my White Mage hoodie a good chunk of the time.

Where/how can I find you?
Look for the White Mage. :-P Aside from that, I’ll be in Con Ops (I sorta um, run that department) and on site at registration (I wrote the registration software we use…).
How are you getting there?
Driving out with Ethan Staghorne and Joel Fox. Both of them are coming to the con all the way from Sweden.

What hotel are you staying at?
The Westin.

Which days will you be attending?
I’m arriving Tuesday night, departing Monday afternoon

I’ll be busiest on Wednesday and Thursday for setup. After opening ceremonies on Friday morning, my schedule quiets down until Sunday afternoon, at which point we’ll be packing everything up. Once the packing is done sometime Sunday evening (around 9 or so…), then I can relax the rest of the evening.

Do you do requests?
I’ll drink certain booze if requested to, if that’s what you mean.

Fursuit Parade
Do you do trades?
Nope. I’m not giving away my booze. Ever.

Do you do commissions?
I don’t brew alcohol, so no…

Will you have prints, CDs, or merchandise?
Definitely not. It would be illegal for me to sell alcohol.

Will you have Art in the Art Show?
Nope.

Who will you be with?
That’s a good question. Since I’m working this con, I’ll be running around quite a bit.

I’d certainly love to make the acquaintance of other White Mages, though!

What is your main purpose for attending?
Convention obligations aside, I love to see my friends again, and to meet other people with similar interests.

_DSC6113Can I talk to you?
Sure, but if you see me walking somewhere kinda fast, you’ll have to walk with me. And if I say, “Not right now”, I’m not blowing you off, I’m just taking care of something. In terms of “time not on duty”, Anthrocon is unfortunately my worst con in taht regard.

Can I take pictures with you?
Um, I guess. I won’t object to that. I just never understood the whole, “I’d like my picture taken with this person” thing.

Can I touch/hug/cuddle you?
Not when I’m on duty. It would be unprofessional of me.

Can I hang out with you?
Sure! See the above notes about my availability.

Do you go to parties?
Yes. And I’d certainly like to be invited to more parties so that I can meet more people. It’s way too easy to fall into the trap of going to the same parties and events year after year and seeing the same people. While comforting, it can cause someone to become “set in their ways”, and I don’t want to be that.

Do you fursuit/costume?
Not at the moment. Just a White Mage… with a tail. :-)

What is the best way to reach you?
When not at the con? Check my contact page: http://www.dmuth.org/contact

During the con, @dmuth on Twitter works. My cell number for texts is also available on request.

Anything else?

Cheetahs are kinda derpy sometimes.

Nice… fursuit?

It’s pretty badass, at any rate.

you thought I didn’t really notice. But I did. I wanted to high-five you.

Yesterday I had a pair of brothers in my store. One was maybe between 15-17. He was a wrestler at the local high school. Kind of tall, stocky and handsome. He had a younger brother, who was maybe about…

Forks Over Knives

So I watched Forks Over Knives last night. It’s a documentry that talks about the dangers in… not fat, but animal proteins and processed food. It links them to happy fun things such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol.

The takeaways from this:

- It’s not fat that’s an issue as much as it is eating protein that comes from animals. That’s been shown to cause the above mentioned conditions.

- Protein from plants is not a problem.

- Processed foods are also nasty. This is because they are calorie dense which means you can eat more before the stomach “feels” full.

- We can become addicted to processed foods because our brains are hardwired to equate protein, fat, and sugar with pleasure. That’s a tough one to get around, unfortunately.

The good news is that, according to the documentary, cutting animal protein out of your diet and yield immediate and substantial benefits. And it’s not too terribly difficult to do, it just requires having a little more discretion over what you eat.

So, what could Forks Over Knives have done better?

- I finished the movie thinking, “Okay, I’ll give vegan diets a try, but what now? Where do I start?” Some resources would be nice.

- I don’t recall the subject of seafood being discussed. I know that seafood has some substantial differences from red meat, such as having Omega-3 fatty acids instead of Omega-6 fatty acids found in meat. I’d really like to know more about this.

- That doctor towards the end who went on about being able to cure cancer just by a change in the diet. I’d really like to smack this guy. I feel that making bold claims like that in regards to fatal conditions is just irresponsible. The documentary would have been better without him.

All that said, I was still impressed with the overall film. Impressed enough that I’m going to look into cutting animal proteins out of my diet for the first half of 2011 and see how that works out. But I can’t do it alone. Anyone know a good dietician in the Philadelphia area? :-)

Have you watched Forks Over Knives? Did you like/hate it? If so, why?

Well, this year’s MFF came and went. And man, did it ever go well. This was one of those conventions for me where everything seemed to go right and fall into place. It was a rare moment at the con…

Yep, that’s a new version of the Raptor Red fursuit making its debut.

More pictures to come, sometime next week.

Wow, it’s been awhile since I’ve written to my LJ.

I want to update here more, but it seems like people are using LJ less and less. While I like Twitter, it’s really difficult to post anything…

I’m still not sure how this happened, but while visiting [info]chefmongoose the other weekend, he somehow talked [info]film2edit into making some artwork of me as a Brony:

I rolled in from Anthrocon around Midnight on Monday, and slept in yesterday. I then spent the rest of the day hosting [info]staghorne and Joel Fox (both visiting from Sweden), along with…

So I found this as a reply to my last post:

Thanks, [info]film2edit!
